Lewisville Map

Located about fifteen minutes from downtown Winston-Salem, Lewisville has a long history dating back to the 1770s. The town was named for Lewis Laugenour, a member of a group of settlers who followed the Great Wagon Road from Pennsylvania into the area. Laugenour donated land for development in the central area of town.

Officially incorporated in 1991, Lewisville is one of the fastest growing residential communities in Forsyth County. With a population of about 13,000, it ranks as one of the most populous municipalities in the county. But despite the steady growth, residents have resolved to preserve the small-town, family-friendly atmosphere. A comprehensive plan is in place to prevent over-development and to maintain a balance between residential and commercial presence in the downtown area.

Community spirit is fostered through events and activities in Shallowford Square.Shallowford Square is the focal point for downtown. This popular center point offers free events and concerts throughout the year, such as the annual Beach blast in June and a 4th of July celebration featuring a live band and fireworks. The downtown area is decorated to give it the small-town look and feel that the townspeople cherish. During the summers, Lewisville has music in the park, where families come out with picnic blankets and children can be seen flying kites and enjoying ice cream. Dedicated to the presentation of arts programs including visual, performing, and literary, the the
Lewisville Area Arts Council is celebrating its 19th year in Lewisville and Western Forsyth County.

The Roller Mill now houses other local businesses. The Roller Mill, built in 1910 and operated until 1984, is another community landmark. By accommodating travelers from surrounding communties, the Roller Mill established a reputation for fine grains, wheat and flour. Although the mill is now closed, the building remains in its original form and continues to serve the community through new tenances.

Westbend Vineyards is winning national and international awards for excellenceLewisville is also home to
Westbend Vineyards, a 70-acre vineyard producing 1500 cases of wine per year. Called "one of the South's best-kept wine secrets" by the Wine Advocate magazine, the vineyard produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc varieties.
