The Triad is home to several minor league baseball teams and some of the best college sports in the Southeast. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) basketball tournament is played here as well as the Chrysler Classic, the oldest stop on the PGA Tour. Also, several professional teams, including the Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and NASCAR are within a little over an hours drive from the area.

In 2003, they finished their season strong, winning their last five games and finishing with a 67-69 record. The Bats play in War Memorial Stadium, the fourth oldest minor league ballpark still in use today.
The Dash Winston-Salem's minor league baseball team, the Dash, is a class "High-A" team in the Carolina League and have been a farm team of the Chicago White Sox since 1997. The Dash began playing their home games at the new BB&T Ballpark beginning in 2010 after having Ernie Shore Field (now known as Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park) as their home from 1956 to 2009. The tournament celebrated 50 years in 2002-2003. The nine ACC teams include Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Its basketball team, the Demon Deacons, went undefeated (17-0) in 2003 at Lawrence Joel Coliseum, their home court, and won their first outright ACC title since 1962. The Demon Deacon football teams coach Jim Grobe has led his team through two bowl-berth seasons in 2002 and 2003. Groves Stadium, home of the Demon Deacons, seats more than 31,000. UNC Spartans Ticket Sales: (336) 334-3250 The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Spartans offer a range of sporting events including their womens basketball team, which made it to the Southern Conference Tournament championship in three of the past four years. The UAW-GM 500 in October and the Winston and Coca-Cola 600 in May attract racing fans from across the country.
